How the Separation Works
Combined Drainage Area
In the combined drainage areas we will upgrade the system by separating the existing combined drainage system. This means that we will:
- Build a new public pipe system so that there are separate pipes for both wastewater and stormwater.
- Install new separate pipes for wastewater and stormwater between your house or business and these systems.
- Carry out this work at no charge to property owners.
Some properties in the combined drainage system areas may already have installed separate wastewater and stormwater pipes from the building to the public pipe. Where this has occurred, we will only need to connect these pipes to the upgraded system.
The diagrams below outline a typical drainage system before the works (Diagram 1) and after the works (Diagram 2).
Stormwater soakage Area
In stormwater soakage areas, we will ensure that the system is operating effectively. This means that we will:
- Identify if and where any stormwater is getting into the existing wastewater system.
- Look at ways of reducing this.
Diagram 3 below sets out a typical drainage system in a stormwater soakage area.
